BEIJING—At the second China-Arab Press Cooperation Forum held in Manama, Bahrain, participants urged the formation of a news partnership between Chinese and Arabic media to free media outlets in both areas from relying on Western media for reports on important events in their regions.

According to China Daily, Guo Xiaoyong, executive deputy director of the China International Publishing Group, and a former Arabic-speaking journalist with the Xinhua News Agency pushed the idea at the forum. They said such a partnership would help developing countries on issues such as human rights and offer alternatives to Western media dominance. Wang Chen, minister of China’s State Council Information Office, said that apart from news reporting, links between Chinese and Arabic media organizations are needed to increase political mutual trust and help boost trade.
