PHOENIX -- The U.S. Department of Justice is ready to file a lawsuit against the Arizona law SB 1070, a month after Governor Jan Brewer enacted the controversial legislation, which makes it a state crime to be undocumented and requires local police officers to act as ICE agents, reports Univision. The lawsuit could be filed at any time in federal court. The Department of Justice is arguing in the lawsuit that SB 1070, which will go into effect on July 29, is unconstitutional because it imposes on the federal government's inherent authority to enforce the law. Some newspapers, including the Arizona Republic and the Los Angeles Times, are reporting that the Department of Justice is also considering legal action against the law for racial profiling Latinos.
