Latino artists are joining together to condemn the new law in Arizona that empowers police to question anyone about their immigration status, El Comercio reports. Puerto Rican hip hop group Calle 13, Mexican singer Paulina Rubio, Colombian singer Shakira, and Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal are among those who have spoken out against SB 1070.

“I think it is unfair that you can become a criminal by the mere fact of being an immigrant. I do not agree with it," said Paulina Rubio.

Shakira said she has plans to travel to Arizona to meet with Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, as well as pro-immigrant activists and police officials, to learn more and discuss the implications of the state law that is expected to go into effect in August.
