MIAMI – A neon sign flashing the message, "No Latinos" and "No tacos" that appeared on a highway in southern Florida is the latest example of the anti-immigrant wave rolling across the country, Despierta America, Univision, reports.

The Miami Herald reported on its website that the Miami-Dade Police are investigating the incident.

The message of hatred found in Miami is not the first of its kind since the passage of two anti-immigration laws in the state of Arizona. The online social networking site Facebook circulated an image of the cartoon "Dora the Explorer" with her face beaten and bloodied for allegedly having resisted arrest by the police because she was undocumented.

“Dora is like a blank screen on which people can project their thoughts and feelings about Latinos," said Erynn Masi de Casanova, a psychology professor from Cincinnati University. “They feel they can say negative things because it is just a cartoon character,” she said.
