TUCSON, Ariz. -- The federal judge in Phoenix, Susan Bolton, set the dates for the first two SB 1070 hearings in Arizona, when arguments will be presented for claims against the state's controversial immigration bill, reports Univision. The lawsuits were filed by two police officers, David Salgado of Phoenix and Martin Escobar of Tucson, contending that the law is unconstitutional and racist. The hearings are scheduled for July 15 and 22. The federal judge also ruled that the government of Mexico may bring an action known in legal terms as an "amicus" (friend of the court) brief in support of a lawsuit filed by several American organizations including the ACLU.
