Join New America Media Investigative Reporting Project on Bay Area Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans
New America Media is calling for ethnic media reporters to participate in a special investigative reporting project on veterans returning home to Northern California from Iraq and Afghanistan. The reporters will research and report a story or series of stories of their own design, as well as contribute to a collaborative investigation on the overall conditions for returning soldiers.
The project, which is being done in partnership with the Bay Citizen (a new non-profit journalism venture in the Bay Area) and is funded with support from the Overbrook Foundation and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund.
The resulting stories will run as a series published simultaneously by New America Media, the Bay Citizen, and participating ethnic media outlets. All stories must be edited and approved by NAM editor Aaron Glantz before publication and projects must be completed by October 31, 2010.
In addition, fellows will participate in a MANDATORY half-day training in San Francisco hosted by New America Media and the Bay Citizen.
Fellows will receive a $1,500 stipend in two increments ($500 at the San Francisco training and $1,000 once the story or series has been published or aired).
