 When Barack Obama gave his famous speech at the 2004 democratic convention about there’s not a black America and a white America and Latino America and Asian America, there’s the United States of America, he got thunderous applause. President Obama he has taken pains to emphasize he is the President of all Americans. When the congressional black caucus pointed out how the recession had hit African Americans especially hard Obama ruled out any special programs to help blacks, arguing instead for a rising tide that lifted all boats. So while his election was certainly a watershed, has it moved us into a post racial America?
