Filipinos Students Most Improved in English, Math

Filipino students showed the most improvement on the English-language and math portions of state standardized tests for the past eight years, reports Filamstar.net.

The results of the 2010 Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program were released by the state found Filipino students had the greatest improvement in achieving proficiency or higher in English-Language Arts, with an increase of 21 percent, as they scored a high 69 percent in the last 2010 STAR Program, compared to 48 percent in 2003.

The 21 percent increase was above the 17 percent increase registered overall by students scoring at the Proficient or Advanced level during the same eight-year period.

Also, the 2010 figure of 69 percent surpassed even the average score of all students participating in the program, that stood at 52 percent, and is tied with the score of white students, although second only to Asian students, who scored 75 percent. (Filipinos are not classified among Asians.)
