Pakistani journalist Wali Khan Babar, a reporter for Geo News, was killed in what appeared to be a targeted attack on Thursday evening in Karachi, reports Pakistan Link. He was covering gang violence in the city shortly before being gunned down while going home from his office. Geo television reported the journalist was killed in front of a police station by gunmen who fled on a motorbike.

Journalists in Pakistan are demanding an independent investigation into the killing.

"Wali Khan Babar's death is the latest in a string of targeted attacks on journalists in Pakistan," said Bob Dietz, Asia program coordinator for Committee to Protect Journalists. "The government has not addressed the problem in any meaningful way."

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari is currently on a state visit to Washington, D.C., to attend the memorial service for Richard Holbrooke.
