NEW YORK -- Korean automobile designer In Ho Song is one of the lead designers behind GM's popular hybrid the Chevy Volt, reports the Korea Daily. Song, a graduate of Seoul National University, said he had long dreamed of working for GM. After several years with Korean car manufacturers Hyundai and Kia, Song's dream came true in 2006 when he was hired by the then struggling American company.

"I spoke no English at the time, and it was a real struggle to adjust to life in an American company," Song told the Korea Daily, adding that up to that point he had no experience working with foreign companies. "When the boss spoke to me, I'd nod my head and say yes, then turn to my co-workers to find out what was actually said."

Still, driven by a passion for cars, Song managed to work his way into the top rungs of the company's design team, gaining a seat on the company's next generation hybrid project. The Volt was selected as the 2011 North American car of the year.
