The White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders [WHI-AAPI] recently released the first set of government agency plans available online for public comment and feedback. NAM TV anchor Odette Keeley interviewed Dilawar Syed, Economic Growth Committee Chair of the President’s Advisory Commission on AAPIs about this landmark initiative--- on “Upside” which airs on COMCAST TV’s Hometown Network Channel 104.

In this web post, this live studio interview comes right after the show’s opening billboard.

Syed shares that this first-ever Open Comment Period aims to increase the AAPI community’s as well as all minority groups’ access to and engagement with the federal government. Officials of these federal task forces confirmed this landmark initiative during their summit held last January, on entrepreneurship and small business growth held in Silicon Valley, which Syed hosted and helped organize as well. The event provided critical resources and information, including new government loans for small businesses. In NAM's multimedia coverage of this summit, Keeley also asked Small Business Administration officials to clarify how they are making government loans more accessible for minority-owned small businesses.

In line with this White House Open Comment Period, NAM is collaborating with the WHI-AAPI in promoting this critical effort. Our NAM campaign: “Tell the White House What YOU Think!” is on the upper right hand side of our home page and the information page can be found here.

The White House Initiative-AAPI Open Comment period is OPEN to everyone regardless of ethnicity, religion, legal status, etc. NAM believes it is a very valuable opportunity for the ethnic media --- to not only participate in the campaign themselves by providing their own feedback about these plans -- but also, as a sector with a critical role in shaping public policy --- to re-post the banner in their websites to encourage their audiences to take part in this important effort.

NAM is offering to anyone interested, FREE banners/buttons and information web pages about this campaign available in English, Spanish, Chinese and Korean.
