CHICAGO -- The Illinois House of Representatives passed the Illinois DREAM Act (SB 2185) in a bipartisan 61-53 vote. The bill would establish a private fund, at no cost to state taxpayers, to fund scholarships for undocumented students, and allow advisors to provide information on programs and services available to immigrant students in Illinois. The legislation now heads to the desk of Gov. Pat Quinn. The passage of SB 2185 comes on the heels of Gov. Quinn's decision to terminate the state's participation in the Secure Communities program.
