Philippine Garment Exporters Seek Special Treatment

MANILA—Philippine officials are asking the U.S. Congress to pass a bill granting special treatment to Philippine-made garments. Lobbyists on behalf of the Philippines are trying to win more supporters fin the US Senate and House of Representatives for the approval of the Save Our Industries (SAVE Act), which would allow the duty-free export of Philippine garments to the United States.

Philippine consular officials are encouraging Filipinos and Filipino Americans to band together and write letters to their congresspeople and senators in support of the Save Our Industries bill, whose passage is expected to revive the garment industry in the Philippines.
