There is that day in elementary school when we turn to the pages in our textbook that discuss the civil rights era struggle for equal education. It's a footnote in history for many an 8 year old.

But today, in 2011, history appears to be repeating itself in Arizona as students and educators fight to retain their ethnic studies courses and their futures. Eren McGinnis is the producer of a an award-winning feature length documentary called Precious Knowledge which followed the case of the Tucson Unified School District this year as they battled government and public opinion to do what they felt was right.

New America Now Host Shirin Sadeghi caught up with her as she was on her way to a film festival screening.
