Latinos March to Wall Street
NEW YORK -- After walking 11 miles over six hours, more than 1,000 Latino and African-American demonstrators arrived at Zuccotti Park in Lower Manhattan Monday afternoon, reports El Diario/La Prensa.
The march, led by State Senator Adriano Espaillat and Councilmember Ydanis Rodríguez, started on 181st Street and wound its way south, picking up community groups and union members along the way.
When they arrived at the park -- where Occupy Wall Street protesters have been stationed for nearly two months - the entire park erupted in applause.
Bronx resident Francisco Almonte, 31, is the father of three children and has been unemployed for six months.
"We walked 11 miles,” he said, “but it’s not enough. This movement will be here all winter."
