OAKLAND, Calif. -- Yesterday thousands of Occupy Oakland protesters rallied outside the port in support of the city's first general strike since 1946. At 4:00 p.m., demonstrators began leaving downtown Oakland, making their way to the Port of Oakland. By 6:30 p.m., the Oakland Port Authority had issued a press release declaring that all work at the port would be shut down for the evening due to the number of protesters - which appeared to be in the tens of thousands - blocking the port gates. The Port of Oakland is the fifth largest port in the country.

These are sounds and images from NAM's ongoing coverage of Occupy Oakland.
