Fox and the Colombian RCN Television Group announced Monday the launch of MundoFox, a new Spanish-language television network with general content targeting the U.S. Hispanic market.

MundoFox, scheduled to begin broadcasting this fall, will offer Fox content to the lucrative and growing Hispanic market while aiming to reach 75 percent of households in the United States, the two companies said.

The programming will be made up of Fox sports content, RCN series and telenovelas - which has already had a hit here with “Betty la Fea” (Ugly Betty) - and newscasts from RCN’s NTN24 canal.

This means that News Corp., property of tycoon Rupert Murdoch, will be competing with Univision and Telemundo, currently the nation’s two biggest Spanish-language networks.
