ICE to Give Leniency to Those Arrested for Minor Traffic Violations

WASHINGTON -- Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced today that if it identifies an undocumented immigrant through Secure Communities, from only a minor traffic violation, ICE will not keep him or her in custody until there is a conviction.

Five months after a report was issued on the shortcomings of the program, ICE responded to the criticism through a document obtained by La Opinión.

In the document, the agency recognized that security control actions based only on minor traffic offenses, "do not correspond to an efficient use of government resources."
