Marlins Suspend Guillen for Five Games After Pro-Castro Remarks

Miami Marlins manager Oswaldo "Ozzie" Guillén was suspended for five games Tuesday as a result of his pro-Castro remarks. The Venezuelan apologized for the remarks and asked for forgiveness from anyone who was directly or indirectly hurt by them.

Guillén told Time magazine he loves Castro and respects the retired Cuban leader for staying in power so long. The comment prompted several local officials to say that Guillen should lose his job.

At a news conference Tuesday, Guillen said his comments were misinterpreted, and he does not love or admire Castro.

"I was saying I cannot believe somebody who hurt so many people over the years is still alive," Guillen told reporters.
