Chinese and Filipino hackers "exchanged fire" in cyberspace over the weekend, adding to the two countries' recent tensions over disputes in the South China Sea.

GMA News Online reported that Filipino "hacktivists" struck back on Saturday at Chinese websites after hackers - "apparently from China" - defaced the official website of the University of the Philippines on Friday.

The news organization reported that the attack targeted some Chinese sites with calls for sovereignty over the Huangyan and Nansha Islands.

The attacks were apparently the work of individuals and were not condoned or encouraged by either government, the report said.

China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs had not issued any comment about the attack by press time on Sunday.

According to Agence France-Presse, hackers claiming to be from China defaced the website of the Philippines' top university on Friday to assert China's claims over the South China Sea.

A screen capture of the defaced site showed a map with Chinese characters that highlighted islands in the South China Sea that are also claimed by the Philippines, said AFP.

"We come from China! Huangyan Island is ours," a caption on the map stated.

Huangyan Island is where the two countries have had vessels stationed for nearly two weeks in a standoff to assert their territorial claims in the area.

Please, China don't understimate the ANTS. The ants are so tiny than the Elephant... but we go for the ant principles. Small as we are but terrible! We know how ants do their works patiently and painstakinly. Ants are not quarrelsom unless attacked.

We warned you CHINA never under estimate us, PHILIPPINES, stop your bullishness. You'll repay for your arrogance. We don't care if you got superb military forces. It doesn't matter for us. This is an issue of integrity and sovereignty for us FILIPINOS. You began to trespass our territorial sea waters then you must prepare the consequence of what this tiny country can do to you or shall I say expect the worst from us.

So gay... filipinos always think THEY are being bullied, regardless of the fact and that Philippines had been China's colony since thousand years ago...
Just thinking about the history of their 'king' asking the Chinese emperor Qianlong for permission of a ridiculous merge into a 'heavenly cultivated land' makes me feel sick.

Chinese never give such tiny land a f, but things that have been belonging to China for thousand years will never be conceded to any other country. It would be more of a humiliation to that island itself. If, however, Filipinos want to get screwed so badly, they can just go ahead purchase for F-16 from the US despite that 40% of their whole population are suffering from hunger from time to time. btw, does that one additional island really bring you food, or I neglected the fact that Filipinos constantly feed on ill glory?
