The Department of Justice announced on Thursday that it would file a lawsuit against Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio over allegations of civil rights violations, including the racial profiling of Latinos. The news was lauded by immigrant rights organizations.

In December 2011, the Department of Justice released its findings of a “pattern and practice” of violations.

Angela M. Kelley, vice president for immigration policy and advocacy at the Center for American Progress, applauded the Department of Justice for pressing forward with their investigation of Arpaio. "For too long, rather than fairly enforcing the law, Arpaio has been living above the law," she said in a press release.

“The time has come for Sheriff Arpaio to face accusations of discriminating against Latinos," said Ali Noorani, executive director of the National Immigration Forum.

When I was a federal law enforcement officer, I took an oath to uphold the law. That's all that sheriff Arpaio is doing. He should be thanked, not sued.

I think Eric Holder should be sued for not doing his job.

My name is Arturo Plascencia of Mexicali i think Joe Arpaio needs to be put in his own jail so he can serve justice
