We are honored to have Bay Area journalism icon Belva Davis as our Awards Gala emcee and honoree. She is the multi-awarded host of KQED's "This Week in Northern California", and NAM will take the opportunity during the programme to salute her groundbreaking achievements that have helped carve a path for journalists of color.

We are calling for entries for work published between January 1, 2011 and March 1, 2012. Award categories include Outstanding Hyperlocal Report/Feature; Outstanding Investigative/In-Depth Story; Outstanding Community Reporting - For Radio and For Television; and Outstanding Community Blogger, among others. Award winners will receive cash prizes and a trophy or certificate.

PG&E, the founding sponsor of the awards event, is underwriting an award to the news organization to be selected by judges for Outstanding Coverage of Interracial/Inter-ethnic Relations.

For the purposes of this competition, Northern California and the Central Valley stretches from the Oregon border through Fresno. NAM will host a Southern California Ethnic Media Awards competition and gala in late summer that will include ethnic media from Calexico to Bakersfield.
