With coconut water's rising popularity as a health drink, the volume of the Philippines' export of the liquid to the United States increased by 300 percent in the first quarter of this year.

Coconut water is rich in potassium and magnesium and contains a considerable amount of vitamin B, which strengthens the muscles, delays fatigue, and maintains normal heart function. It is regarded as a good source of electrolytes and glucose and have been found suitable for intravenous rehydration.

The Philippine Coconut Authority reported that 4,498,158.00 liters of coco water went to the U.S. market compared with last year’s figures of 1,125,451.00 liters.

Likewise, the value of the export product rose by 260.56 percent with this quarter’s earnings of $4,783,443.00 compared twith2011 figures of $1,326,672.00.
