Driver's License Bill Passes Illinois House
CHICAGO -- In a vote of 65-46, the Illinois House passed a bill on Tuesday to grant driver's licenses to undocumented immigrants. The bill, which was already approved in the state Senate, now heads to the desk of Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn, who has said he plans to sign it. The driver's licenses, which will be a different color than regular licenses, will be valid for three years and will not be able to be used as identification to board a plane, buy a gun or vote. An estimated 250,000 undocumented immigrants in Illinois are expected to benefit from the legislation.
