Chinese Media on Lingzi Lu, Chinese Grad Student Victim in Boston

Boston University graduate student Lingzi Lu is identified as the latest victim of the Boston marathon bomber. According to Chinese language newspaper, World Journal, Lu and other two Chinese international students Danlin Zhou and Tingting Qian were watching the race near the finish line when the bombs exploded. Qian was safe but Zhou was seriously injured and is in stable condition. Lu’s parents in China had tried to contact Lu after watching the news but could not reach her. After they were informed that Lu was dead, they had requested initially that her name not be released.

Lu, 23, came to the United States to study mathematics and statistics. Lu was originally from Shenyang of Liaoning province. After graduating from Shenyang’s Northeast Yucai School in 2008, she studied at the Beijing Institute of Technology, majoring in international trade.

Boston University Chinese Student Associate left messages on Sina Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, in Lu’s memory. “We did not have time to say goodbye to you. Please sleep well in the heaven,” one message said. “Your heart will always be with us. And we will always be with you no matter where you are.” Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in New York’s also expressed President Xi Jinping’s sorrow and condolences to the dead and injured students in Boston.

Yongkun Yang, who had taught Lu several years ago in Northeast Yucai School, told Sina.com that, “Lu impressed me by her smartness and honesty. Even though she graduated from the school long time ago, I still remember her. ”

Lu’s friend ,Mr. Lee said to Sing Tao newspaper that “ Lu was nice and had a big heart. People around her loved her so much. We wish her a peaceful journey [to the next world].”
