In what La Opinión called an "earthquake in the Republican Party," House Majority Leader Eric Cantor conceded defeat Tuesday after losing the Virginia state primary to Tea Party candidate Dave Brat. The unprecedented defeat of the second-most powerful Republican in the House raises questions about the longterm direction of the GOP and could make House Republicans wary of voting on any immigration reform bills this year. During the primary campaign, Brat criticized Cantor for supporting immigration reform, calling it "amnesty." In response, Cantor shot back that he was opposed to the "Obama-Reid amnesty plan."
