A St. Louis County grand jury decided not to indict a white police officer who shot and killed an unarmed black teenager in a case that has sparked national protests. Darren Wilson, 28, will not be indicted for killing 18-year-old Michael Brown.

In Washington, President Obama called for peaceful protests, saying, "We need to accept that this decision was the grand jury's to make." But he said the Ferguson case "speaks to broader challenges that we still face as a nation.''

As protesters took to the streets in Ferguson, the newspaper The Root encouraged readers across the country to share their thoughts on Twitter.
