(Spanish Only) Parents and teachers at Hoover Elementary School, located about 30 miles south of San Francisco in Redwood City, are praising a new program there aimed at enhancing the academic performance of pre-K through 3rd grade English Learner students. Some say that under the Sobrato Early Academic Language (SEAL) program, which offers teachers training on how to better meet the needs of their EL students by, among other things, taking advantage of the new Common Core standards, many are now outperforming their English-speakign peers. Melissa Hernandez of Noticias Univision 14 visited Hoover to learn about the program. This story was produced as part of the Informed Communities Education Reporting Fellowship, a partnership between New America Media and the Silicon Valley Foundation.
