Earlier this month, President Obama granted commutation to 214 federal inmates, the most commutations issued in a single day by any president.

On Tuesday, the president added to that number by granting 111 inmates freedom.

In the month of August alone, President Obama has commuted the sentences of 325 people, the greatest number of commutations granted by a president in a single month.

“Today’s 111 commutation grants underscore the President’s commitment to using his clemency authority to provide a second chance to deserving individuals,” an announcement on the White House site states. “We must remember that these are individuals — sons, daughters, parents, and in many cases, grandparents — who have taken steps toward rehabilitation and who have earned their second chance.”
