Prop 21 Fight Changed Their Lives

Editor's Note: In 2000, California voters passed Proposition 21, a law that allows more youth to be prosecuted as adults and increased penalties for juveniles in the criminal justice system. It also increased the state budget for juvenile justice system by some $300 million annually.
Ten years later, several young people who were involved in political organizing to oppose Prop. 21 reflected on that time and how it affected them. They told their stories to Ann Bassette, a senior producer for YO! Youth Outlook Multimedia.
