The awards seek to recognize the ethnic media's unique role in American journalism. Across the country, nearly one in four ethnic adults accesses the ethnic media on a daily basis. The faculty from the American University School of Communication; representatives from Council on Foreign Relations; and immigrant advocacy groups in Washington judged the contest. The second Washington D.C. Ethnic Media Awards, co-organized by NAM and American University School of Communication, were funded in part by the McCormick Foundation and The Surdna Foundation. |
