How Much do Parents Know About the Common Core?


Ed. Note: The end of this school year will mark the first full year of Common Core implementation in California. Adopted four years ago, districts and schools have been working ever since to bring themselves and parents up to speed on the new and more rigorous standards. In this segment (Spanish only), Univision Reporter Melissa Hernanez looks at whether or not efforts to inform Silicon Valley's Spanish speaking community about the new standards have succeeded and what more needs to be done.

We hear from a group of parents whose kids attend Latino College Prep. Academy, a charter school in East San Jose serving the area's sizable Latino community. Many say they know of the change that has come with Common Core even if they don't understand it. All agreed that school and district officials need to do more to inform parents.
