Facebook metaverse

Facebook Metaverse

Currently, there's a lot of talk about the metaverse, and some are already saying that in the future we'll have a parallel life within it. The announcement of Facebook's name change to Meta managed to ignite all the media and social networks. With this announcement, Mark Zuckerberg, founder, and CEO of the popular social network started the race to be the first to control this virtual universe. So, what's the purpose of the Facebook metaverse and why has it generated so much commotion?

What's the goal of Facebook's metaverse?

The company plans to invest millions of dollars in this new business model, channeled through its Facebook Reality Labs division. Among the advances of this project, we can see the Oculus virtual reality glasses and the incorporation of avatars in social networks (which we'll talk about later).

Zuckerberg expects that by the next decade the Metaverse will reach 1 billion users and generate billions of dollars. Thus many of the millions of creators working online will be able to benefit from the digital workflow. For him, this virtual reality will bring opportunities for creators, artists, and individuals who wish to work remotely.

He also dreams of people connecting in this world even when they're apart, which is the main purpose of Facebook. In Zuckerberg's vision, people will be able to find access to education and other important services in this virtual place.

There's no doubt that Facebook's commitment to the metaverse project is serious. So it's likely that in the coming years they'll manage to define the way we use the Internet. However, this doesn't mean that Facebook will be the owner and master of this new universe since it'll be centrally controlled by different users. But Zuckerberg wants to be ahead of the curve to have an immediate presence in this digital world.

What does Facebook gain from the metaverse?

With this move, Zuckerberg plans to redefine the Facebook user experience, making it more immersive and engaging. Therefore, they'll have a greater capacity of retention and belonging, which will mean a longer exposure time to advertise. And therefore, more data is collected, analyzed, and monetized by the company.

It's no secret that this social network is becoming less attractive to the new generations. Which are opting for other social networks that are more modern and attractive to them. So making this leap towards a virtual reality interface and pioneering this project is what the company needs to evolve towards a new network model.

    Facebook metaverse avatars

Meta's focus on achieving its mission to bring the metaverse to life is in full swing. To achieve this plan, the company has begun to incorporate and refine its 3D avatars. Though of course, they don't look like the ones Zuckerberg initially proposed.

These avatars are available for use as stickers in both messages and stories. When the feature is turned on, just tap on the sticker button and choose the avatar you have created.

This is the first step towards their vision of the metaverse, as Meta enables a unified experience where avatars can digitally represent the user. Additionally, this "virtual self" it's available and synchronized across all of the company's social platforms.

We can only say goodbye to the Facebook we know, and wait to see what else Meta has to offer!
